Our Apocalyptic Tale...

Under God’s Tongue is an immersive, cult theater experience that investigates the sway of blind devotion and the dangers of an individual attempting to play God.  This otherworldly adventure unfolds at a summer camp for misfits in need of healing, including the text-addicted Centipede and the ever-earnest Edward. The camp is run by the God-struck prophet Richard, his pregnant wife Eli, and her two eccentric children Dagmar and Emmanuelle. As this motley crew inextricably entwine themselves, Richard seizes control  with promises to fill the hole within us all and visions of a better life. But such a heaven on earth cannot last forever, and when the decay below the surface bubbles to the top, all hell breaks loose. Under God’s Tongue  explores grasping for the unseen, the impossibility of innocence, and the power of loving to a fault.

As a company, we are excited to develop this original, collaboratively-generated, immersive work of theater which will be performed at the beginning of March in an eerily beautiful old gymnasium located on the top floor of the West Park Presbyterian church.

Our Process

We are building a theatrical EVENT, an immersive environment with guttural screeching, white russians, personal and communal devastation, ritual and questions of God. It's an ambitious undertaking that we are fueling with our desire to fight the notion of "boring and stale theater." Through experimentation with audience immersion and collaborative creation, we will not only inspire and empower the audience, but also the team of young creators involved in making the piece.

We will be developing and rehearsing as a full cast from December to early March. For the first two months we will explore the themes of animalism, ritual, Joan of Arc, the apocalypse, presence and God by churning out material in the form of small compositions, songs, bits of choreograpy, and written pieces. We will then develop concrete plot points and character. Our fabulous director will then take a week to structure a strong "working script" which the cast will flesh out and tighten during the month of February. Soon after will be opening night and our six show run!

The devising process is special in that each creator involved has the opportunity to take full responsibility of their work and express their experiences truthfully in a theatrical , collaborative manner. We are dedicated to giving our actors an empowering platform in which they can expand beyond their typical "actor" roles and explore the limitless possibilities of working on their feet from a place of intuition.
